With the electrification and digitalization of Nepal’s public transport sector, SET4NPL envisions additional benefits for public transport users. The project also supports the implementation of a digital ecosystem in which everyone can participate. Every public transport user who possesses a digital wallet or QR code for payment can use this system to pay for the bus fare. Over a smartphone users can download the mobile app for free which provides a range of useful information and services:
The app is connected to multiple digital wallets for easy top-up. Once you have registered and there is credit on your account you can easily check in and check out on public buses by tapping your mobile phone on the e-ticketing machine while entering and leaving the bus. Fares will be automatically calculated based on the public fare system.
SET4NPL is working on increasing the number of participating buses that are equipped with an e-ticketing machine and GPS tracker, so that the promoted services can hopefully be used on every route and on every public transport vehicle soon.
More information about the app and the option to use e-ticketing without a smartphone can be found on the page about e-ticketing.
Apart from that, the app also includes options to provide feedback to bus drivers and operators e.g., about driving style or cleanliness of the vehicle.
Through an app-integrated digital SOS button, passengers can send an alert to the driver as well as to an emergency contact.
These features aim to make public transport safer and improve the service as a whole.
